A. STANDARD WOOD SPECIES
Alder*, Knotty Alder, Distressed Knotty Alder, Plain Sawn Red Oak, Quarter Sawn Red Oak, Philippine Mahogany, Soft Maple and Paint Grade Yellow Poplar (recommended for interior use only) are standard. Other woods are available.
Doors are manufactured from U.S. kiln dried hardwoods with natural variations in color, grain and texture. Hand select lumber is available for an extra charge. For nonstained (clear) finishes we recommend hand select lumber.
Doors with book matched grain are not available.
* Regular Alder may contain some imperfections such as a few small knots.

B. SIZES
Standard door sizes are 30", 32", 36" widths x 80" and 84" heights; 36" x 96"H; 42"W x 84"H; 42"W x 96"H. Custom sizes are also available. Doors larger than 42"W and/or 96"H are not warranted against bow or twist regardless of thickness. Doors under 42"W and 96"H can be 1-3/4", 2", or 2-1/4"T. 2-1/4" thickness is recommended for doors over 42"W and/or 96"H. If the door size you wish to order is significantly different from the sizes (usually 36"W x 80"/84"/96" H) shown in the images, adjustments and/or alterations in some design configurations and panel proportions may be necessary to accommodate your dimensions. We will use our own interpretation for number of lites, number of raised panels and the expanded or contracted camed glass designs unless specified otherwise.

C. THICKNESSES
Standard thickness is 1- 3/4". 1- 3/8" thick doors are available through 36" widths and 84" heights. Doors less than 1- 3/4" thickness will not accommodate camed glass with safety glass reinforcement. 2" and 2- 1/4" thick doors are also available. The standard thickness for hand-wrought iron (Manorgate®) doors is 2-1/4" for double glazed insulating and 1-3/4" for single glazed.

D. CONSTRUCTION
Doors are pegged mortise and tenon construction.
To avoid the possibility of warped stiles and rails, most doors have stave core stiles and rails with heavy veneer.

E. HAND CARVED AND SOLID PANEL DOORS
Many doors are available carved one side or carved two sides. Many uncarved solid raised panel doors are available with mouldings one side or two sides. When doors are carved one side, or have mouldings one side, the reverse side will be raised panels. Doors with raised panels and no mouldings have raised panels both sides. In many door designs, glass may be substituted for any carved or raised panel.

F. ASYMMETRICAL DESIGNS
Double doors will be mirror image matched unless specified otherwise.
Single prehung doors: To avoid the possibility of inadvertent design reversal, it must be specified how the asymmetrical design is to appear on the exterior.

G. CUSTOM DESIGNS
Custom designs are available. Forward detailed sketches.

H. NONINSULATING GLASS
Single glazed noncamed glass.
Camed glass with safety glass reinforcement.

I. INSULATING GLASS
Double glazed noncamed glass.

L. STILES
Because many of our doors have substantial mouldings, the mouldings may overlap the stile. The minimum exposed stile on any door with mouldings is 4- 7/8". If the exposed stile width is important for hardware placement, contact us for exact specifications.

M. HARDWARE AND HINGES
Hinges are available for prehung doors. Doors 90"H and under require three ball bearing hinges. Doors 90" through 120" require four hinges. Doors over 42"W require four hinges.

3º bevel on lock side (single door). For double doors, the active door is beveled. If an astragal is used, the astragal is beveled to fit the beveled door. If both doors are active and there is no astragal, both doors are beveled.
Door is fit and installed into the jamb.
All doors have hinge pins pulled and the door is crated and shipped separately from the jamb to prevent damage in transit.

All doors, sidelights and transoms are available in arch forms. Arches which have unusual or untrue radii require plywood or Mylar® templates.

Doors manufactured by PINECREST® are warranted for one year from date of shipment to be of good material and workmanship and at the time of shipment free of defects that would render them unfit for ordinary recommended purposes. Should a warranted door be found by PINECREST® to be defective, PINECREST® will at its option, either:

Repair the door without charge, or:
Provide a replacement part or parts for repair of the door without charge, or:
Provide a replacement door in the same stage of fitting and/or finishing it was originally supplied.
THE FOLLOWING WILL BE REQUIRED FOR ALL REPLACEMENT DOORS:
An invoice will be issued showing full value of replacement door.
A deposit equal to 25% of replacement door value must be received ten days prior to shipment of remake.
This deposit will be refunded and credit will be issued for the remaining balance of the replacement door invoice upon receipt of the defective door. Return of defective door must be made within 30 days upon receipt of replacement.
Refund the price received for the door after defective door is received by us.

FINAL WARRANTY INSPECTION WILL BE MADE AT THE FACTORY UPON RECEIPT OF DEFECTIVE DOOR. IF THE CLAIM IS FOUND TO BE INVALID, NEITHER CREDIT NOR REFUND OF DEPOSIT WILL BE ISSUED FOR THE REPLACEMENT DOOR OR THE ORIGINAL DOOR.

We will not be held liable for any door repaired or replaced without our prior written consent.

You must inspect each door immediately upon receipt. If a defect is discovered, a written notice must be given within 30 days and before the door is hung or altered in any manner.

We will not pay any cost to remove defective doors or to install new doors, nor are we responsible for any finishing costs or consequential damages. We will not be held liable for any door repaired or replaced without our prior written consent.

THE FOLLOWING ARE NOT TO BE CONSIDERED DEFECTS IN MATERIAL OR WORKMANSHIP AND ARE NOT COVERED BY THIS LIMITED WARRANTY:

Wood doors are susceptible to expansion and contraction caused by temperature and humidity variations. Small surface checking or slight shrinking or cupping which may cause tiny cracks at the joints may occur under certain conditions. These deviations from perfection are not considered flaws. PINECREST® doors are shipped unsealed and unfinished and the natural characteristics of wood movement cannot be warranted against. PINECREST®’S “Handling, Site Finishing and Installation Instructions” must be followed to minimize problems.
Warp shall not be considered a defect unless it exceeds 1/4” in the plane of the door. Doors wider than 3’6” or higher than 8’ (1- 3/4”, 2” and 2-1/4” thickness) and doors wider than 3’0” or higher than 7’0” (1- 3/8” thickness) are not warranted against bow or twist. Warp is any distortion in the door itself and does not refer to the relationship of the door to the frame or jamb in which it is hung. The term warp shall include bow, cup and twist. In measuring the amount of warp present in a door, the following method must be used. Bow, cup and twist are measured by placing a straightedge, taut wire or string on the suspected concave face of the door at any angle (i.e., horizontally, vertically, diagonally). The measurement of bow, cup and twist is made at the point of maximum distance between the bottom of the straightedge, taut wire or string and the face of the door. Action on any claim for warp may be deferred at PINECREST®’S option for a period not to exceed (12) months after installation to permit the door in question to acclimate to temperature and humidity conditions.
Panel shrinkage.
Cutting into mortise and tenon joints.
The appearance of field finished doors.
Natural variations in the colors of the wood or in the texture and grain of wood.
Doors which are improperly hung or do not swing freely.
Exterior doors not protected by substantial overhang and exposed to extreme weather conditions.
Doors that are not finished according to PINECREST®’S written “HANDLING, SITE FINISHING AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS”.
Single safety glass reinforcement is not considered to be true insulating glass. Because of the nature of leaded glass construction, certain weather conditions may produce condensation in doors with safety glass reinforcement. PINECREST® will not warranty doors of this type against condensation between the two glass elements.
Doors made without safety glass reinforcement in nonconformity with our specifications are not warranted as to failure of glass elements.
Any condition arising from the neglect or failure to properly maintain the door.
Defects or damages arising in, or as a result of shipment by common carriers, private transportation and/or other means of transportation are not covered by warranty.
Any implied warranty shall be limited in duration to the period of this warranty. There are no warranties that extend beyond this warranty, and PINECREST®’S sole responsibility under this warranty is as stated herein. PINECREST® shall not be held liable for consequential, indirect or incidental damages, or for any amount in excess of PINECREST®’S price for the item involved.

HANDLING, SITE FINISHING AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
You must inspect the door immediately upon receipt. If a factory defect or discrepancy is discovered, a written notice must be given within 30 days, and before the door is hung or altered in any manner. Doors not handled, finished and installed to guidelines below will not be covered by PINECREST®’S warranty.

UNFINISHED DOORS (Usually wood stains are applied before sealer coats to ensure proper penetration of stain.)

If unfinished door and jamb are stored for more than one week, the entire door including all four edges, (also under the astragal which has been temporarily attached for shipping purposes) cutouts for hardware, mortises for hinges, and the jamb and astragal must be thoroughly sealed to prevent moisture absorption. Remove weatherstrip from astragal and jamb before sanding and sealing. If door is prehung, remove hinges. Usually wood stains are applied before sealer coats to ensure proper penetration of stain. Most solvent based stains have some sealing qualities; however, this type of stain should not be relied upon for achieving adequate sealing.
Before sealing, sand the entire door thoroughly with 150 grit sandpaper. A thorough sanding is important to remove surface blemishes, handling marks, cross grain scratches, etc. Sand with the direction of the grain. Remove dust with a tack cloth. Handle with clean gloves and do not drag across other surfaces.
Door and jamb must not be subjected to excessive humidity, moisture, heat, dryness, direct sunlight or sudden atmospheric changes.
Deliver to building site after plaster or cement is dry. Store flat on a level surface in a dry well ventilated building. Cover to keep clean, but allow air circulation.

FINISHING DOORS

If unfinished door and jamb are stored for more than one week, follow #1 thru #4 guidelines as listed above.
Finishing must proceed immediately after fitting, cutting for weatherstrip, threshold, hardware and hinges.
Do not install wrought iron until sanding, sealing and finishing are completed.
Before staining, follow sanding instructions as shown for unfinished doors. Remove hinges on prehung doors and weatherstrip from astragal (also remove the astragal which has been temporarily attached for shipping purposes) and jamb before sanding, staining and sealing.
After sanding, apply stain. Most stains are wiped after application. The length of time the stain is allowed to penetrate before wiping and the amount of rubbing with the wiping cloth will determine the depth of color. Most stains lighten in color before drying. Some will darken slightly upon application of clear sealer and varnish. Certain species of wood, particularly Oak, contain chemicals which react unfavorably with certain finishes. Darker stains on Maple can appear somewhat mottled and uneven. Where possible, the surface should be tested for unfavorable reactions.
Apply a good quality sealer after staining (be sure sealer is compatible with finish) to the entire door including all four edges, cutouts for hardware, mortises for hinges (be sure to remove hinges on prehung doors and thoroughly seal the mortised areas), and the jamb and astragal.
After sealing, sand lightly with 400 grit sandpaper before finishing.
For stained exterior doors, apply three coats of high quality exterior grade polyurethane or UVA Spar Varnish. We highly recommend UVA spar varnish because of its durability. Sand lightly between coats with 400 grit sandpaper and apply finish to entire door including all four edges, cutouts for hardware, mortises for hinges and the jamb and astragal. For interior doors, apply two to three coats of high quality varnish.
If door has been sealed and finished prior to job site fitting, any newly cut edges must be sealed and refinished.
Once finishing has been completed, replace weatherstrip in the jamb and astragal.
For painted doors, follow sanding guideline as shown for unfinished doors.
Prime the entire door including all four edges, cutouts for hardware, mortises for hinges (be sure to remove hinges on prehung doors and thoroughly seal the mortised area) and the jamb and astragal with a high quality oil based primer.
Then apply three coats of high quality exterior grade paint being sure to apply finish to all four edges, cutouts for hardware, mortises for hinges, and the jamb and astragal.
If door has been primed and painted prior to job site fitting, any newly cut edges must be primed and repainted.
Once finishing has been completed, replace weatherstrip in the astragal and jamb.
Most finishes deteriorate relatively quickly. Inspect the door periodically for finish deterioration. Maintenance is recommended annually.

INSTALLATION (Doors not prehung by factory)
The structural integrity of the door must not be impaired when fitting the door. There must be no alteration for lites, louvers, panels or any other special details. Care must be taken in the application of hardware.
Use three ball bearing hinges on all doors (regardless of thickness) through 90"H, four hinges over 90"H through 120"H. Doors over 42'W require four hinges. Hinges must be set flush with edge surface. Be sure hinges are in a straight line to prevent distortion. Allow approximately 1/8" clearance on each jamb side of door and 1/8" clearance on height for swelling
of door and frame.
